Get Set For Summer With World Class Greenkeeping Equipment
Published 28th May 2025 News
Getting your golf course into the best possible shape for the summer season is always a challenge, but this year you’re going to need all the world-class greenkeeping equipment and expertise that GreenTek can offer.
The driest spring
The winter and early spring usually present problems with flooding and high winds, but not this year. 2025 has seen some unusually warm and dry weather across the UK. According to the Met Office, March saw an impressive 185 hours of sunshine and just 43% of the usual rainfall nationwide – dropping to just 20% in the South.
That was followed by a record-breaking April, which was the sunniest since records began, with 228.9 hours of sunshine. Once again, April saw just 56% of the usual rainfall, dropping to just 25% in the North, making it the second driest April since records began in 1836.
Impacting impaction
This lovely spring weather may have been very pleasant for all of us, but it’s had a huge impact on our golf courses. Not only has the long dry spell significantly stressed the turf on our greens and fairways, but the warm weather has also brought out much more fair-weather golfers, much earlier than usual.
The sunshine may have helped the grass recover from the winter and get growing sooner, but the dryness has also weakened the roots and compacted the surface. Add in the heavier than usual wear and tear from eager golfers, and greenkeepers have a lot of work on their hands to keep their courses in good condition.
GreenTek is here to help
Fortunately, GreenTek has all the greenkeeping equipment you need to manage your course under even the most testing conditions, including long dry spells. Here are just some of the late spring jobs we can help you with, and the greenkeeping equipment you need to do them:
-
Tackling compaction – the dry weather and increased footfall will both have compacted your turf. This not only makes the ground hard and unforgiving, but it can also stop water and vital nutrients from reaching the roots. GreenTek has a range of greenkeeping equipment to fight compaction, including the Sarrel Roller and Multi Sarrel, the Dyna-Spiker and the Dyna-Corer.
-
Feeding your turf – once the barrier layer has been broken up, you can start to add nutrients to the soil, including nitrogen and potassium, to give your grass roots a much needed boost. Here you’ll find the Mega-Mix incredibly helpful, saving you both time and money when mixing your own feeds from soluble straights
-
Overseeding – once the hot dry spell has passed, you can look at overseeding any stressed turf. This is an important job if you want to repair any worn areas caused by the influx of players enjoying the sunshine. With the Dyna-Seeder, you can seed all 18 greens in just a few hours, quickly and effectively, avoiding lengthy disruptions to play.
-
Topdressing – top dressing not only promotes growth and retains moisture in the soil, but also helps you to create the quality playing surface your members demand. The GreenTek Greens Groomer’s zig zag pattern of sixteen brushes ensures unrivalled distribution of topdressings.
-
Green care – creating high quality greens that play true is a challenge under any conditions, but with twelve interchangeable cartridges, the Thatch-Away Supa-System will give you the edge. From verticutting to spiking, rolling to brushing, all in one system, it’s no surprise that it is the greenkeeping equipment of choice for the best courses worldwide.
